Official Switzerland and the persecuted Christians

The protection of Christians and other non-Muslim minorities in the Middle East is a major concern for the Swiss. Parliamentary initiatives from all parties have repeatedly called for persecuted minorities to be given priority in granting asylum or for special support to the Christian population in the region.

• The Federal Council consistently rejected these proposals, but in 2014 – at the height of IS terror – promised to “in future focus more on the situation of threatened religious minorities and the measures taken in this regard within the framework of the foreign policy report.”

This lukewarm policy is taking its revenge today...
